Today, the LPG carrier BASTOGNE (previously BW HUGIN - IMO 9237747) has been registered on the Belgian register of seagoing ships under reg. No 01.00794.2011. Three other LPG carriers called SOMBEKE (previously BW SOMBEKE - IMO 9292113 - reg.No 01.00790.2011), TIELRODE (previously BW HEDDA - IMO 9014420 - reg.No 01.00791.2011) and TEMSE (previously BW HELGA - IMO 9014432 - reg.No 01.00793.2011) were already registered at the end of August and the beginning of September. the vessels were bought by the Antwerp based company Exmar.

On September 14th, 2011 the newbuild MINERAL MANILA was registered on the Belgian register of seagoing ships under registration No 01.00792.2011. The vessel is a bulkcarrier owned by the Antwerp based shipping company Bocimar International. She was built by HHIC-PHIL Inc. at Subic Shipyard in the Philippinies. Delivery of the vessel took also place on September 14th.

Today, the Belgian official gazette (Moniteur belge / Belgisch Staatsblad) has published the German translation of the Belgian Code of commerce, which contains, inter alia, the Belgian maritime act. An extract from this publication that relates to rights in rem on vessels and to ship mortgages and to their registration, is attached herewith. Today, the Belgian dredging group DEME had two newbuildings, called VICTOR HORTA (IMO 9525704 - BE 01.00786.2011) and CONGO RIVER (IMO 9574523 - BE 01.00787.2011) registered on the Belgian register of seagoing ships. Today a first Swath pilot boat called WESTDIEP (IMO 9568988) has been registered on the Belgian register of seagoing ships. 'Swath' stands for 'small waterplane area twin hull'.The registration was effected on the request of NV Wandelaar Invest in its capacity as disponent owner. Two more pilot tenders named WIELINGEN and WESTERSCHELDE and a pilot station vessel named WANDELAAR are expected to be registered under Belgian flag as soon as they are also delivered by the German shipyard Abeking & Rasmussen.

On 29 March 2011 a colloquium was organised in Antwerp to discuss a further chapter of the draft Belgian code of navigation regarding rights 'in rem' and mortgages. This colloquium took place in the context of the public consultation the draft code is to be submitted to. The ship mortgage registrar was also invited to share his reflections with the maritime stakeholders. The Dutch language text of his address is in attachment.
